2 Timothy 2:3,4 You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.

The Lord is exercising us to be in “spiritual shape”, so we can be a good soldier to fight this hidden spiritual war. It takes great spiritual shape to guard our eyes from desiring excitement. The lusts of the eyes is fulfilling this desire of excitement. The world is setup to entangle us and divert us from the call of God on our lives. From sports to politics to entertainment, everything is programmed by the spirit of the world to keep our eyes on the here and now. The enemy does not want us to be focused on the eternal, on heaven, on the lost going to hell, on the call of God, on the Second Coming of Jesus. The spirit of the world wants to conform us to their image. It is out to quench the Holy Spirit on our lives. We need to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). This where the hardship comes from, we need to deny the flesh and our sensual appetites.
